What is the Super Visa?

Who can be invited?

Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The visitor must be the parent or grandparent of the inviting person (or their spouse / common-law partner).

How long can they stay?

Up to five years per entry on a multi-entry visa valid for up to ten years. This is very different from the standard Visitor Visa, which typically allows stays of up to six months.

What does the inviting person need?

A letter of invitation, proof of income (Notice of Assessment or T4 slips from your most recent tax year), and evidence of private medical insurance purchased for the visitor.

What is LICO?

LICO stands for Low-Income Cut-Off. IRCC uses Statistics Canada's LICO figures to set minimum income thresholds. For the Super Visa, your household income must be at or above 100% of LICO for your total family size, including the visitors being invited.
